MARCH MADNESS

March is a wonderfully busy month packed with year-end recitals and other culminating events as the term reaches its finale.

The month begins with a solo piano performance by faculty member Brett Kingsbury of Rachmaninoff’s rarely heard first Piano Sonata in D minor, op. 28 as well as other works for piano. Next up is this season’s second fully-staged Opera at Western production, Sondheim’s musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Join us as our students perform this darkly comedic tale of love and revenge set in the gritty street of Victorian London. Reserve your seats in advance to avoid spending $5 more at the door!

The Fridays @ 12:30 concert series concludes its season this month with two concerts: guest artists Thompson Egbo-Egbo and the Egbo-Egbo Trio treat audience members to a blend of original compositions and old and new standards with an electrifying sound that comprises jazz, classical, soul, and cinematic influences; faculty member James Westman, baritone, joined by faculty member Angela Park at the piano, perform repertoire inspired by life and love.

Western's Dance students present their annual showcase Studies in Motion this month. The performance is a representation of the accomplishments of the students resulting from creative challenges explored in their dance courses.

Percussion Ensemble, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Early Music Studio all take their final bows of the season this month.

Many, many more events are always expected to be added in March, including studio, chamber and solo student recitals. So keep an eye on the events listing, and as always make sure to confirm details before leaving home on the day of the event; scheduling can change frequently at this busy time of year.

Behind the Events

In addition to the large ensembles performing their final concerts of the year, our students are also working hard to share their solo and chamber repertoire in various recitals throughout the month. This is also a busy time for life on campus as students prepare for final exams and the end of classes next month.
