Shuwei Zhang, originally born in Jinan, China, discovered her passion towards classical music early in her childhood, and would grow to become immersed in the treasures of Western music and literature. She would eventually undergo professional training with Dr. Shuyu Liu during her undergraduate years while completing her Bachelor of Business in Shandong University of Finance and Economics. Determined to follow her love of music, life would take her to Western University in Canada, where she completed the MMus, and currently continues her Doctor of Musical Arts under the precious mentorship of Dr. Sophie Roland and M° Simone Luti. With the utmost help she has received from her mentors, she has been privileged to perform on various stages, such as the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, the Shandong Grand Theater, and Trianon Theater in San Jose, California. As a doctoral candidate, her research passion lies in music from the Romantic era and its application to modern media platforms (films, television, etc) with a special interest in Georges Bizet’s compositions, both operatic and non-operatic.
