Minors in Music

Minor in Music

The Minor in Music at Western is a 4.0 course module focusing on academic music courses (such as music history and music theory). Private instruction is not included or required in the minor in music, but it may be added for an additional fee. The minor in music can be combined with a wide array of other programs or modules at Western. The minor in music does not need to be declared in first year. Students pursuing a minor in music may want to participate in a large ensemble which would be in addition to the course load for a music minor.

Course requirements and options for the music minors can be seen on Western's Academic Calendar.

Minor in Music Performance Studies

The Minor in Music Performance Studies is a three-year program designed for students who are also concurrently enrolled in a non-music degree. The program is flexible and permits students to focus exclusively on music study. It offers weekly one-hour lessons. Although minor holders represent performers of high artistic achievement, graduate schools generally require an academic degree as well. Students already at Western should contact Diane Mills at pdmills@uwo.ca during the Intent to Register period.
