CHOOSE YOUR OWN NOVEMBER
The concert offerings this month could be marked “generoso!” From the debut of opera and jazz to the return of the pop and salsa bands, students and guest artists take the stage along with special celebrations and events to mark Western's International Week.
Fridays at 12:30 welcomes South Korean cellist Hocheol Shin in performance with faculty member Kyung Kim as they take to the stage with Music of the Americas featuring works that personify the diverse cultural mosaic and heritage of the Americas. The series will also welcome guest artist ensembles including The Light of East Ensemble, and on the last Friday this month, Canadian repertoire will be on display as faculty member Christine Tithecott, piano, leads friends and colleagues in concert.
Unfortunately this month’s planned Musicians of Tafelmusik residency was postponed and we hope to reschedule for the new year.
Mid-month, Opera at Western presents the perennially popular and deeply cherished Viennese comedic operetta, Johann Strauss II’s Die Fledermaus (The Bat) – we look forward to welcoming you to Paul Davenport Theatre for this hilarious screwball comedy!
The first round of student chamber music recitals kick off in November, starting with two showcase concerts.
Throughout the month a fabulous variety of guest artist concerts will take place including the HAAS string duo composed of sisters Natalie, cello, and Brittany, fiddle, who will share a musical journey encompassing travels through time with representation from Nashville to Norway, the Celtic Isles to California. Piano repertoire enthusiasts will also be satisfied with two solo piano concerts, the first from faculty member Leslie Kinton, and the second from guest artist Christina Petrowska Quilico performing works from her new album, Games of the Night Wind.
Western's annual International Week inspires the return of Songs of Many Lands, where students sing works from regions around the world.
We expect several school groups to descend on the always-popular Percussion Ensemble, but don't worry, there’s both a lunch-hour and evening concert available (same program).
News and Changes
Our printed concert guide is published in August, with changes, edits and updates to be expected. This month's updates will be listed here:
- November 8 and 9 concerts featuring Tafelmusik and Early Music Studio have been postponed and will not be taking place as planned. Visit the EMS webpage for details once available.

Behind the Events
November usually flies by for students as they work towards the end of the fall term, with final essays, projects and performances all coming due.
We're also focused on Western's Fall Preview Day, where we host a full slate of specialized activities, student-led tours and program-specific presentations for our future musical Mustangs. Know a prospective student considering Western Music? Check out the website for the schedule and to register.
For school groups and studio teachers, we encourage you to reach out for personalized programming for your students. Help them get to know what its like to study music at the post-secondary level. We pride ourselves on the supportive and friendly atmosphere students learn in at Western—contact agorbase@uwo.ca for opportunities or check the Visits and Tours webpage for more.
