DECEMBER MUSINGS
Fall term classes come to an end on December 6, but concerts and special events continue throughout the month to close out 2024 on a high note.
The month kicks off with one of our newest ensembles, Pop Band! Under new direction this year with faculty member Mitchell Tyler, they will take the stage for the first of two planned concerts this season.
Not-to-be-missed this month are concerts featuring Electroacoustic composition students as they share their work, and the fall term concert from the Contemporary Music Studio.
All three Choirs at Western (Chorale, Les Choristes and Western University Singers) will perform for the second time this term. The Symphony Orchestra will give a sendoff as the last large ensemble concert of the year with the appropriately titled concert Puccini: One Hundred Farewells in celebration of Giacomo Puccini’s orchestral and operatic repertoire at 100 years after his death, showcased through his own music and the music he loved.

Behind the Events
Internally, students come together to celebrate the approaching holiday break with festive music concerts organized by the Faculty of Music Student Council. Externally, our community comes together at Covent Garden Market for the annual festive Tuba concert—stay tuned to our socials for more details!

Ensemble Auditions
Are you a Western student and play an instrument or sing? All Western students – regardless of major – are eligible to audition for ensembles and opera.
Opera at Western
It's an exciting year for Opera at Western with two upcoming fully-staged productions from Rossini and Britten, and an afternoon opera/musical theatre gala.
New Horizons Band
Do you want to learn (or re-learn) to play wind or percussion instruments? New Horizons Band is a popular community outreach program for adults.
