Time: Mondays through Fridays 8:00 am-4:30 pm
In this two-week intensive program, participants will strengthen their personal musicianship and pedagogical skills, with content grounded in a contemporary understanding of the philosophy inspired by Zoltán Kodály. Participants will engage in supportive musically educative opportunities through singing, reading, writing, moving and creating to build personal skills and knowledge to assist in classroom music teaching and learning.
Level I is appropriate for experienced teachers, emerging teachers and graduate students. Level II builds on the learning in Level I and is open to those who have successfully completed a KSC or OAKE certified Kodály Level I course previously. Note that students cannot register in both Kodály courses as they meet at the same time.

9582 Special Topics in Music Education: Jazz Pedagogy: Methods & Materials
Instructor: Kevin Watson
Time: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 1:00-4:00 pm
This course equips students with the methodologies and instructional materials necessary to teach jazz to students in diverse educational environments. Upon completion, students will be able to discuss the historical development of jazz education in schools and colleges, articulate a comprehensive philosophy of jazz education applicable to various instructional levels, and demonstrate effective rehearsal strategies for directing both large jazz ensembles and jazz combos. Additionally, students will gain proficiency in distinguishing the distinctive characteristics of various jazz styles, identifying prevalent jazz compositional forms, and developing methods for teaching introductory jazz improvisation.
