WELCOME BACK!
With September comes the return of a not-to-be-missed concert season at the Don Wright Faculty of Music. We hosted over 400 free public events in 2024/25 and are on track for a similarly packed schedule of incredible performances, workshops, masterclasses, lectures and more for you to enjoy this year.
Things kick off on a high note this year with our signature Fridays at 12:30 concert series. First up in the series is alumna Laura Nielsen, soprano, with faculty member Marianna Chibotar-Rutkevich, piano, on Sept. 12. If you can't join us in person for any of the Fridays at 12:30 concerts, these events will be livestreamed so you can enjoy the performances from home or on the go.
Homecoming celebrations around campus take place later in the month. The 2025 Music Alumni Wall of Fame inductees will be honoured during the Alumni Awards Celebration on Saturday, September 27. To purchase tickets, visit Western Alumni.
In commemoration of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, join us for a concert featuring soloists Emma Pennell, soprano, Rebecca Crane, mezzo-soprano and Evan Korbut, baritone, in concert with the Western University Singers on September 28.

Behind the Events
September is a fun and intense time for students. The month begins with OWeek and the excitement of meeting new classmates and instructors. Students start auditioning for ensembles of all kinds, large and small. (Psst — are you a Western student? Non-music Western students are encouraged to audition, too.) Rehearsals commence swiftly, with public performances getting underway at the end of October.
Everything that goes into producing the year's Operas is already in full swing by mid-September: rehearsals start, sets are being built, lighting and costume preparation is underway. Want to reserve your ticket for this year’s productions? Book early to select your favourite seat via the Opera at Western page.
September is also when New Horizons Band gets rolling for the fall season. NHB is a popular community outreach program with multiple groups from beginner to advanced, for adults wishing to learn (or re-learn) to play wind or percussion instruments. It's never too late to learn and have fun!
