Mary Blake Bonn
Mary Blake is in the PhD program in Music Theory, and holds an MA in Music Theory from Western, as well as a BMus from Université de Moncton in New Brunswick. Her research addresses questions about voice and vocality, drawing inspiration from the essays of the French literary theorist Roland Barthes. Mary Blake is also interested in the history of music theory and the intersection of music with the broader intellectual currents of its time. She has performed with several vocal groups at Western, and as the violinist for Mariachi Cielo Rojo.
While at Western, Mary Blake has been lucky enough to hold TA positions in General Integrated Musicianship, music history, and music theory. In 2016, she has taken on the role of Lead TA for the Faculty of Music.
Mary Blake is involved with the Western community at large, most notably with the Society of Graduate Students and PSAC Local 610. She is also actively engaged with the broader London community, serving as founder and group leader for the London chapter of Citizens’ Climate Lobby, a non-profit, non-partisan, grassroots advocacy organization working to create the political will for a liveable planet and to empower citizens to become engaged in the political process. Mary Blake is proud of the work that the CCL London chapter has done and is proud to call London her home during her time at Western.
