Born in Bogotá, Colombia, Emer Montaño, is a choir conductor, pianist, organist, educator, and church musician based in London, Ontario. He is currently pursuing a DMA in Choral Conducting at Western University under the tutelage of Dr. Mark Ramsay. He completed a master's degree in Choral Conducting at the same university and studied with Dr. Tracy Wong during his first year of doctorate studies. He holds a bachelor's degree in Piano Performance from Universidad Nacional de Colombia, where he was mentored by Prof. Angela Rodriguez (piano) and Maestra Elsa Gutierrez (choir). His interest in liturgical music led him to pursue organ studies under the guidance of Dr. Ronald Fox. Emer holds a Service Playing Certificate in organ from the Royal Canadian College of Organists.
Emer has actively performed as a collaborative pianist for both soloists and choirs in Colombia and Canada and has vast experience as a chorister for different organizations such as Coro del Conservatorio Universidad Nacional de Colombia, and Gerald Fagan Singers. He has had the opportunity of being assistant conductor for London’s Chor Amica, Western University Singers and Chorale at Western University. His DMA research focusses on exploring, promoting, and facilitating informed performances of choral music created since the 1600s in Colombia and Latin America.
Emer is currently organist and choir director at Holy Family Parish in London, Ontario, and has a private piano studio in this same city, where he resides with his wife and two young daughters.
