Music and Community - Part 2
How does a BMus (Music Education) saxophonist come to lead a community choir workshop? Through the Music and Community course, naturally!
Current student Erin Bartlett notes, "This was a great opportunity for me to enhance my skills in singing and learn how to teach in terms of pedagogy and different strategies within a classroom. I did learn a whole lot and made mistakes along the way, but I had lots of help, lots of feedback, and lots of communication with my professor."
Learn more about Erin's placement in partnership with the London Pro Musica Choir and the YMCA and YMAP program through the Music and Community course and her experience both in Music Education and on campus at Western by watching the full video.

Music and Community - Part 1
On this #MusicEducationMonday, get to know more about third-year student Toshi Kawabe and the Music and Community course!
A large part of learning key skills in the Bachelor of Music (Music Education) program is getting out in the community and practicing! Through his placement at L'Arche London, Toshi participated in various activities and took on a variety of roles through their music programs which "offer a unique and inclusive space for individuals with and without intellectual disabilities to come together and create beautiful music."
We were able to catch Toshi in action at one of L'Arche's Monday Morning Music Club sessions and learn a little more about this placement experience and the Music and Community course.
