Omar Daniel Premieres New Work: STELCO
Omar Daniel's STELCO, a new composition commissioned by Calgary's Land's End Ensemble, received its première on May 26, 2017 at the Bella concert hall in Calgary. Written for Susanne Ruberg-Gordon (piano) and renowned Scottish percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie, the new work was performed to a sold out hall as part of Mount Royal University's Music to your Ears Concert Series in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Land's End Ensemble. The composition uses an entirely metal-based percussion palette, reflecting the subject of the work: Hamilton's Stelco Steel.
