Don Wright Faculty of Music mourns the loss of Peter Smith

It is with great sadness that we share news of Professor Emeritus Dr. Peter Smith’s death on July 23.

A much beloved and highly valued member of the Western community, Dr. Smith was a graduate of the Juilliard School and Cambridge University. He taught both music theory and piano at the University of Manchester (UK) and Western University. A dedicated and intuitive teacher, Dr. Smith was a devoted chamber musician and collaborative pianist, and a prolific adjudicator at prominent music festivals throughout Canada.

After retiring from Western in 1994, he resided in Victoria, where he continued to be an active influence on Victoria's cultural and musical life, including a prominent role in helping shape Victoria's Performing Arts Festival.

Please join us in offering a joyous tribute to Dr. Smith's legacy and excellence, and extending our sincerest condolences to his family, friends, and former students.
