Pre-recorded Audition Requirements
Bachelor of Music
Pre-recorded Audition Requirements
Applicants may send a video recording via YouTube link or Vimeo, prepared according to the following conditions:
- The applicant's face and hands must be visible while performing
- Each piece should be recorded separately but unedited
- If the repertoire performed requires an accompanist, see Accompaniment options for pre-recorded auditions below (this mostly applies to Bachelor of Music auditions)
- Video must be of high quality
Please email the link to your recorded audition to ovandeli@uwo.ca, with the subject line consisting of the program you have applied to, your name, and your instrument (e.g. Bachelor of Music, Kim Young, bassoon)
Accompaniment Options for Pre-recorded Auditions
You may use a live or recorded accompaniment. If a live accompanist is not an option for you, you may have an accompanist record in advance and you play along with their recording, or use an accompaniment program like Smart Music or Cadenza. If accompaniment is not possible, you may also play the audition without accompaniment.
Bachelor of Arts (Music Administrative Studies) or (Popular Music Studies)
Applicants submitting a classical music recording for the Music Administrative Studies program, the expectations are the same as the Bachelor of Music program described above. Applicants submitting a popular music recording as a singer or instrumentalist, ensure that your video recording shows you performing, the performance is unedited, and each track is a separate file. Instrumentalists may use effects pedals for their solos.
If you wish to use backing tracks as a singer or instrumentalist then you may do so provided the backing track does not include the part you are performing. For instance, singers must not sing along to a track that features the vocal part they plan to sing, guitarists should not play along with a solo over a track that already includes that solo, and drummers should not play along with a track that also includes drums.
Applicants who are interested in modern laptop performance, songwriting and production are encouraged to submit two audio recordings that demonstrate their skills in lieu of the performance requirements specified above for instruments and voice. For these applicants only audio recordings are expected; videos are not necessary but acceptable if you have a video to accompany your material.
Applicants may send a video recording by sending .wav or .aiff files or providing links to YouTube, Vimeo, SoundCloud, or Spotify.
Please email the link to your video or audio recording to ovandeli@uwo.ca, with the subject line consisting of the program you have applied to, your name, and your instrument (e.g. Bachelor of Arts, Jane Doe, Popular Music Studies).
