Textures in Conversation: Music, Craft, and the Fibre Arts

September 18-20, 2026
Are you a musician also obsessed with crafting? Stay tuned for more information about an event in the planning stages that will explore the intersections between these two art forms. Textures in Conversation: Music, Craft, and the Fibre Arts will be a three-day festival-symposium, planned for September 18-20, 2026. The event will feature music performances, art exhibitions and demonstrations; community crafting; an Indigenous arts event; and an academic symposium.
Two specific aspects of this intersection take centre stage: first, the overlapping aesthetic and technical elements that the two fields share and, second, the overlapping social spaces in which these artistic disciplines are realized. One planned event, for example, involves a three-day collaborative performance by an electronic music composer and a bobbin lace maker.
The event is organized by Prof. Emily Abrams Ansari along with alumna Kristen Wallentinsen and other Western researchers in Music and Visual Arts.
