Scholarships and Awards

The Don Wright Faculty of Music has numerous scholarships and awards with which to recognize and reward the achievements of entering and continuing undergraduate music students. Additional merit-based scholarships described below through the Office of the Registrar may be available to entering Music students. Current details on Western’s various admission scholarships are available on the Registrar’s Scholarships & Awards webpage.

Western's Automatic Admission Scholarships are awarded upon admission based on academic achievement. No application is required to be considered for these scholarships. You will eventually be notified through your Western Admission portal later in the admission cycle (once grades are received) if you are being awarded one of these scholarships.

Western’s Welcome to Canada Admissions Scholarship and Continue in Canada Admission Scholarship are awarded to international students entering year one from high school who will be paying international student fees. See eligibility criteria at the links above. These scholarships cannot be combined with one of Western’s Automatic Admission Scholarships.

Western’s National Scholarship Program is designed to recognize all-round excellence. They are awarded on the basis of outstanding academic performance to candidates who demonstrate ability for creative and innovative thought and a passion for the pursuit of learning. See the above link for eligibility criteria and additional details. National Scholarships may not be combined with any of the above mentioned university scholarships. The deadline for National Scholarship applications is in mid-February. Check the link for the exact date this year.

Other Funding Opportunities

There are additional funding opportunities available depending on individual circumstances that applicants may wish to explore. The Registrar's Student Finances webpage provides a good starting place to investigate the various options.

Continuing Undergraduate Students

The Don Wright Faculty of Music at Western assesses continuing students for scholarships and awards on an annual basis. The terms and amounts of the awards vary by award. There are more than 75 donor-based scholarships and awards ranging in value from several hundred dollars to several thousand dollars each. Several scholarships allow for multiple recipients. In total, the faculty awards a generous amount of money in donor-based continuing scholarships and awards, some of which require an application. Applications are typically available to students in early September and due by September 30. The recipients are determined each year in mid-October by the Faculty’s Scholarships Committee and funds are made available by Dec 1 in the student’s account.
