Composition faculty member Paul Frehner releases new album

Congratulations to composition faculty member Paul Frehner whose trilingual chamber opera HORIZON: MADOG album is newly released. Set in a future where cataclysmic climate change has caused devastating flooding and geomagnetic storms have decimated global communication systems, the timely story follows Madog, founder of a back-to-the-earth philosophy that eschews any technology that could lead to further pollution. The opera is bookended with the sextet Un pont sanguin.
Paul Frehner is a composer who, over the course of his career, has enjoyed great success in composing music for the concert stage in a wide variety of contexts. Ranging from expressionistic and evocative to exciting and gritty, his works often reflect the existential and experiential aspects of human life, both in society and in humanity’s complex relationship with the natural world.
We were proud to host performers Ensemble Paramirabo and Welsh baritone Jeremy Huw Williams at Western last year as part of the lead up to the recording of this album last summer.
