Flute student Yiping Zhang wins 2025-26 Winds, Brass & Percussion Concerto Competition
Congratulations to third year Bachelor of Music student Yiping Zhang who recently won the Don Wright Faculty of Music's 2025-26 Winds, Brass & Percussion Concerto Competition. Zhang is a student of Sharon Kahan.
Each year, winds, brass and percussion students at Western compete to perform a concerto with the Western University Wind Ensemble or Symphonic Band. All undergraduate, diploma, and masters woodwind, brass, and percussion students who are enrolled in a large ensemble and private lessons at Western are eligible to compete in this competition. Participants are asked to select from a list of approved repertoire.
Zhang performed Gabriel Fauré's Fantasie for the Competition, and will perform this as a soloist with the Western University Wind Ensemble on Saturday, February 7, 2026.
