Kristina Baron-Woods

Biography

Kristina Baron-Woods is a musicologist whose primary musical interests lie at the intersection of music for the voice and theatre, including opera, musical theatre, and Lieder. She has been a Lecturer in the Faculty of Music at Western University for several years, bringing an appreciation for musical theatre to thousands of students through her course, Music 2701: History of the American Musical Theatre. Other courses she teaches at Western include seminars on Baroque Opera, English Renaissance Church Music, and Stephen Sondheim and his Contemporaries.

Prior to her career in academia, Kristina enjoyed a successful career as a performer, with credits at major theatre and opera companies across Canada, national tours, and various Fringe Festivals. She now finds directing and music directing community theatre deeply rewarding. Kristina has worked extensively in youth theatre education, focusing on vocal health in young performers and storytelling through song. As a highly sought-after audition coach, her former students have successfully auditioned for top acting and musical theatre programs at TMU, Sheridan, and Queen's, as well as for the Stratford Festival.

She holds a B.A. (Honours) in Music and English Literature from the University of Waterloo, Master’s degrees in Musicology and Performance from the University of Victoria, and has pursued doctoral studies at Western. Kristina lives in Stratford, where she enjoys taking advantage of the vibrant culinary and theatrical scenes, hiking the local nature trails, and immersing herself in the town's creative community.
