Biography

Clarinetist Amanda Palmer was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. While in Edmonton, she studied clarinet with Western alumnus Dennis Beck. She relocated to London, Ontario to complete her undergraduate degree in Music Performance at Western University where she had the privilege to study under the direction of both Robert Riseling and Jerome Summers. She was awarded the Western University Gold Medal Award, and went on to place third in the International Clarinet Association Young Artist Competition in Arizona, followed by completing her Master of Music Performance at the University of Toronto under the direction of Stanley McCartney.

Amanda’s professional clarinet career in Southwestern Ontario includes working with Jeans 'n Classics, London Symphonia, Windsor Symphony, Kitchener Symphony and the Canadian Opera Company along with many other area orchestras. As a chamber musician, she was a member of Ffourtissimo Clarinet Quartet. Amanda’s teaching career has included positions at Western University, Windsor University, and teaching privately for over 30 years.
