Located in Talbot College room 307, the Music Education Room is a specialized, pedagogical space designed for music educators.
The room contains a main teaching space with five adjoining breakout rooms.
Four of the breakout rooms are designed for small groups of students to practice together and contain the following instruments:
- Electric drum kit
- Electric bass guitar and amplifier
- Electric guitar and amplifier
- Acoustic guitar
- Electric keyboard and amplifier
- Microphones and amplifier
This configuration supports classes such as Popular Music Education in which students explore and experience different pedagogical approaches to teaching and learning a range of popular music styles.
The fifth breakout room is designed to host meetings or small seminars and contains a laptop and large monitor to support videoconferencing.
The main room is often used for lectures, seminars, and demonstrations. It can accommodate up to 25 students and its modular design supports a range of teaching and learning configurations. The front of the room has a large, mounted monitor that is used to display slideshows and other audiovisual media.
The Music Education Room also includes a class set ukuleles and percussion instruments (i.e. xylophones, metallophones), which are often used in Elementary Methods.
