London Symphonia/Western University Fellowship
Created in 2022, the London Symphonia/Western University Fellowship program provides five full-time Western string students considering a career as a professional orchestral musician with a rich package of professional training, performance experience and mentoring, starting with a highly competitive audition process that mirrors the established practice of professional orchestral auditions.
“We are thrilled that our music majors have this uniquely experiential opportunity to work with the very talented musicians of London Symphonia,” said former Don Wright Faculty of Music Dean Michael Kim when the program was established. “This gives our students directly relevant professional experience and training as they prepare to transition to lives as performers and educators in our community.”

Preparing for Auditions: Changing the Narrative
As part of the London Symphonia Fellowship program, in partnership with Western University, there is a lecture that was recorded on preparing for orchestral auditions. Presenters included London Symphonia principal flute, Laura Chambers, principal clarinet, Graham Lord, and violin, Andrew Chung.
The focus of this talk is on changing the narrative in preparing for each audition, finding a way to steer one’s perception of auditions from a potentially difficult experience into one that is part of our natural growth as musicians. The presenters discussed personal processes for auditioning, and what the audition process represents for them. Recorded by London Symphonia, March 25, 2024.
