Gillian Carrabre

PhD Candidate

M Gillian Carrabre is a PhD candidate in Musicology with a focus in Canadian rave music and culture. A graduate of Mount Royal University (Performance Diploma), McGill (BMus in Violin), and The University of Ottawa (MMus in Violin), Gillan has enjoyed a professional career as an orchestral musician and electronic violinist prior to her studies at Western University. During her time in Ottawa, she performed regularly with DJs at local dance clubs. Her dissertation will be auto-ethnographic in nature, a survey of raving and Canadian identity in Ontario from 2014-2018.

Additionally, Gillian is the founder and host of the radio show Elektribe which airs on CHRW (94.9) weekly, showcasing Canadian DJs, producers, and singer-songwriters within the underground electronic music community.

Outside of her academic endeavors, Gillian enjoys teaching young violin and voice students, knitting, and cuddling with her cat Pascal.
