Open House Schedule

9-10am
Meet in Talbot College Atrium
Tours of Don Wright Faculty of Music led by current students

Young Winds observation (Music Education Department). Drop in and observe our popular community beginning band outreach initiative for students in grades 6-9, taught by current students. 

10-11:30am
Talbot College room 141
Information session hosted by Associate Dean John Cuciurean. Information about undergraduate programs and admissions. Faculty, staff and current students will participate

11:30am-12pm

First Year Music Theory. A mini-lecture with Dr Jonathan De Souza

12-1pm
Meet in Talbot College Atrium
Faculty student-led tours resume, and hear a short 10-minute performance by the Flute Choir, starting at 12 noon.

12-1pm
Music Building room 254
Student composer and chamber music collaboration. Watch some of our student composers working with student chamber music ensembles to showcase their works.

1pm, 2pm, 3pm
Talbot College room 100
Voice Division drop-in sessions. Meet with voice faculty and current students. Three short (25 min) sessions are offered throughout the afternoon.

Large Ensembles Showcase. A variety of some of our ensembles; learn more from conductors and students leading and performing in large ensembles.

Western University Symphony Orchestra open dress rehearsal. Piano Concerto No. 5, Beethoven & Symphony No. 4 by G. Mahler, in preparation for Sunday afternoon’s concert at 2pm (free admission). Part of the weekend-long Celebrating Mahler event

Music Library Exhibition
March 24-26 (Music Building Lobby)
In conjunction with two Faculty concerts featuring the music of Mahler and Beethoven, Western Libraries' Music Library and Archives & Special Collections will present an exhibition exploring the relationship between these two composers. This display will feature rare and unique documents drawn from Western’s Gustav Mahler-Alfred Rosé Collection, the largest collection of Mahler artifacts in North America, related to the career of great 19th-C conductor-composer and his reverence for the works of Beethoven.

Symphony Orchestra Concert: Beethoven and Mahler (March 26 at 2pm)

The exhibition will be on display before and after the concerts, and during Spring Open House.
