Gillian Carrabre is a PhD student in Musicology with a focus in Canadian rave music and culture. A graduate of Mount Royal University (Performance Diploma), McGill (BMus in Violin), and The University of Ottawa (MMus in Violin), Gillan has enjoyed a professional career as an orchestral musician and electronic violinist prior to her studies at Western University. During her time in Ottawa, she performed regularly with DJs at local dance clubs. Her current research is ethnographic in nature and includes the exploration of DJ musicianship, socio-cultural practices and ideologies of raving, as well as analysis of the interpretation of electronic dance music.
Gillian is also a trained Suzuki Teacher, specializing in ages 3 to 7. Additionally, she is the founder of a recently established online magazine entitled Elektribe that caters to members of the Canadian rave scene.
