Alison Butler is a PhD in Music Education candidate who has previously worked in England and Wales.  She received the BA (Hons) in Secondary Education (Music) with QTS from Cardiff Metropolitan University and the MA in Music from the Open University.  Alison began her teaching career at Flegg High School, a Musical Futures Champion School, and has more recently spent four years as Director of Music at Royal Alexandra and Albert School, a state-funded boarding school for pupils ages 7-18 where, in addition to leading curriculum music and school performances, she developed training and coaching opportunities for visiting music teachers and staff at other local schools.

Alison's research interests have developed from her own experiences with informal learning in and beyond the classroom.  Her MA research focused on how learners from different backgrounds approached music practice.  More recently, she has investigated creative approaches to music making and the impact of teaching style on learners' creativity.
