Nigel Evans began his musical career with eight years service in the British Army, finishing as co-principal horn of the Royal Artillery Band and Orchestra. During this period, he performed in venues across the United Kingdom and Europe as well as at many state and ceremonial occasions, including for Her Majesty the Queen at Buckingham Palace. As a horn player he has worked professionally with many ensembles including the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Windsor Symphony Orchestra, Concert Players Orchestra, and Brassroots brass ensemble.
His conducting studies were with Andrew Mogrelia (Queensland Ballet), Dr. Colin Durrant (Association of British Choral Directors), and Dr. Colleen Richardson (Western University). His conducting experience includes work with choirs, bands and orchestras including the Birmingham Conservatoire Symphony Orchestra and Wind Ensemble, The Stratford Symphony Orchestra, Brassroots Brass Ensemble, Wilfred Laurier University Wind Ensemble, and the Wellington Winds. He was a faculty member of the Kincardine Summer Music Festival and served as the music director of the Stratford Concert Band from 2001 until 2010.
Originally from the U.K., he is a graduate of Western University (MMus Performance and Literature and BEd) and the Birmingham Conservatoire (BMus Hons). In addition, he was awarded a Post-Graduate Certificate in Choral Education from the University of Surrey and diplomas from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Royal Schools of Music. He lives in London and has been head of music at Sir Frederick Banting Secondary School since 2003.
