Born and raised in St. John’s, Newfoundland, tubist Jonathan Rowsell received his earliest musical training from his father David and the brass band traditions of the Salvation Army. He studied both performance and composition at Memorial University and in 2011 began working to complete his Doctor of Musical Arts at the University of Toronto. Jonathan works as a freelance tuba player throughout Ontario, performing with various groups including the Trillium Brass Quintet, Hannaford Street Silver Band, Thunder Bay Symphony, London Symphonia, Hamilton Philharmonic, and the National Ballet of Canada Orchestra.

In 2013 Jonathan began playing in the newly formed Reverb Brass, a virtuosic chamber ensemble dedicated to exciting performances of new repertoire for brass. Jonathan is also in demand as a clinician and teacher and is the tuba and euphonium instructor at both Havergal College and St. Michaels's College School. In addition, Jonathan is an enthusiastic composer and arranger and has had his works for brass recorded, published, and broadcast in Canada and abroad. Most recently, Jonathan joined the team of composers at Experianza Music in New Zealand.
